New Motorola passes thru Wi-fi Alliance. Calgary or Zeppelin on the horizon?
A new Motorola device passed through the Wi-fi Alliance today, with Model# MB501 in tow. Not much else was revealed, but the juice here is the actual Model# of the phone. This seems to jive with Moto’s first Android device – the CLIQ (U.S.)/DEXT (U.K.) – which were passed with the Model#’s MB200/MB300.

Now this is strictly on rumor status right now, but if this all shakes out the MB501 will be a forthcoming Motorola Android phone. Considering the jump in Model#, it should be bit more of a higher-end device when compared to the CLIQ/DEXT. From what we know so far about the company’s future Android plans the MB501 really could be any number of different devices, but given the next-in-line stature that the Model# seems to denote, my guess is either the QWERTY-equipped Calgary, or the recently discovered dual-mode Zeppelin are headed to market soon.
We’ll certainly keep our ears to the ground to find out more info on this bad boy, and even though a Q4 ‘09 release seems possible, my lean is that this will be a Q1 ‘10 device. And hey, if the Wi-Fi Alliance feels the need to send us some photo evidence through the Leak Line, we wouldn’t be mad at ‘em.
