No Eclair 2.0 Love For G1?

Over and over we have heard the limitations to the T-Mobile G1 would prevent the handset receiving major update’s like 1.6 Donut, this off course did happen but with all the new found Eclair business just now an update to the G1 of the newly announced firmware is looking less and less likely. For one the G1 is already maxed to the death when it comes to storage, obviously there is the hacker world of all things Android and no doubt we will see a mashed rom in the next few weeks (or days) running Android Eclair 2.0 but what has been said is an alteration to the SPL MAY allow this update to happen however only the hacking world of Android would be the one’s who wouldn’t mind doing that but for the average customer? Sad news i know but at the end of the day you have to remember this was the first Android phone and was put out to get a reaction to the customers it would get/receive, it has worked and Android is going further and further everyday but unless the great engineers at Google can come up with something else then it looks this will never happen, remeber though this will only affect the G1, this will have no bearing on updates for the MyTouch/Magic, Hero etc.

Yea sadly everyone who owns a g1 has come to realize we were testing animals for android .. and as these updates get better and better eventually we will have to ditch the G1 and upgrade if we wanna keep up.

Thankfully for cooked roms i have faith cyan and the rest of xda will merge features into current builds and bring eclair to the hacking masses …

Sad though about what happens to average users

I can see it coming to the G1. Strip some of the code out and it may fit. Basically, a custom release of the OS for the G1. i.e. we don't need 3 screen resolutions or camera flash support..

@chosen_one1, great points yeah, you have to feel it for the average user , i mean someone could be quite confident with the fone and be able to hack it but simply dont due to void of warranty! i completely understand…. the early adopters of Android ie. people who purchased the g1 should be treated better

@Mark yes indeed you have a valid point, if in indeed it was stripped of code , it MAY just fit but still isnt ideal ….. and i hear your points about a custom release, i mean dont use some of the crappy t-mobile stuff that they then load after the get a firmware release …. in the G1's case (every little less helps)
