Google maps (Navigation) get’s ported to G1’s & myTouch 3G devices *Update*

While many may argue that Android 2.0 may still not be ready for business, Google’s target of the consumer market has been hot, especially with Google Maps with Navigation packaged into the Motorola Droid’s sleek body. Google’s turn by turn navigation solution, in its original form, has so far been made available for Android 2.0, but it looks like the good folks over at XDA-Developers have spent some time extracting it and making it available for the T-Mobile G1 & MyTouch 3G the first device ever to run Android and a model that has captivated the hearts of geeks with its whimsical chin.

Keep reading to follow the steps on how to get navigation working on your phone.

Easy way update.zip (thanks nnesto21)
Download thisupdate_navigation.zip and save it to your phone’s sd root. Go into recovery mode and flash it. That’s all enjoy..

Tested on Mytouch 3G with Android 1.6 with cyans 4.2.4

Hard way Step 1.

Download this zip file extract it and move build.prop, build.trout.prop & Maps.apk to your SDK tools directory.
adb push build.prop /system
adb push build.trout.prop /system
adb push build.trout.prop /system/build.sapphire.prop
adb shell
cd /system/app
rm *Maps*
cd /system/sd/app
rm *maps*
rm *Maps*
cd /system/sd/dalvik-cache
rm *maps*
rm *Maps*
reboot

After it rebooted, adb install Maps.apk

If that didn’t work try step 2:

Download this zip file

Extract it.
run part1.bat
press any key to continue
it will reboot

when booted back up run part2.bat
press any key to continue
it will reboot
finished

Should work :)

I could not get this to work with a theme that had the new maps.apk installed. i had to remove the apk from the theme, resign it, reflash cm 4.2.4, use the procedure to get navigation to work and then flash the resigned theme without the maps.apk
