Motorola Says No To Custom ROMS For The Milestone

Very sad news for owners of Motorola Milestone fact based on an official announcement by Motorola on Facebook stating that the company will not provide any official support for Android modified firmware.
But way the problem is only on the Milestone and not on the Droid? The answer is very simple, the Droid is Google Experience and so the operating system is clean without any changes by Motorola, while in Europe is linked to the company.
Here is what some folks are saying about this.

This is a weak answer, and I really expected more from Motorola.Copyright violations can easily be met with C&D orders, just as CyanogenMod had – he removed the copyrighted material from his ROMS, and it is still one of the greatest things Android development has seen.
It may void the warranty? Of course it may, those of us who put custom ROMs on our phones are AWARE of this. If our phone breaks and our warranty is void due to a custom ROM, then our only option is to purchase a new one. Motorola is not out of pocket whatsoever, and in fact they may make a few more sales from it.
As an Android developer / software engineer and an early adopter of the first batch of Motorola Milestones, I’m so extremely disappointed in Motorola’s stance on this issue.
You can’t release the 2.0.1 update that the Droid got TWO MONTHS AGO, and you can’t open up the platform to allow us to do it ourselves – so what option do we have? My Milestone is going on eBay this week.

Hi Moto EuropeWhilst I understand your stand point this does seem to have been spouted from a legal department without any input from the Engineer/Marketing side.
below are some points i feel you should take on board
Disclaimer: im by no means well versed in the technical sides of mobile phone world. i have also joined the motodev program though currently see no way this helps me with respect to custom rom issue , unless by doing so i have somehow registered that i understand the risks involved ?
1) one of the main issues it seems from reading round the subject seems to be your signing of the bootloader which it in itself is annoying but not unsurpassable but as you supply a near duplicate device over seas that doesn’t have the this restriction your reasoning given is very weak.
For an idea on how this should be done can i suggest you look at the HTC world. From my time there i can say there update output and general leanancy have fostered a very strong grass roots dev group and from that wider consumer support. The android phoens are still based in the more geeky world so it is this group you should be wooing.
Anyone doing a rom swap does ahve to
1) know what that means
2) look for the right groups and be bothered to join the forumso will understand the risks mentioned in your posts.
Sorry if this is a little garbled but i was on a short timeframe but wanted to get something down before heading to work.
